I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Samantha Sheppard, a Cinema and Media Studies professor at Cornell University. Dr.Sheppard is also an author. Her book is titled, Sporting Blackness: Race, Embodiment and Critical Muscle Memory on Screen. Recently she’s been awarded the 2023 Society for Cinema and Media Studies Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Sheppard recorded the introductory lecture for the Finger Lake Film Trail’s 2021 digital series “Race Films/Race Matters: Starting Conversations About Race. I was so delighted to be able to interview her. I hope you enjoy!
